Sustainability at Helen Round

We believe that beautiful products and responsible making go hand in hand. Here’s how we try to do our bit.

Our Fabrics

All of our materials are sustainably sourced and Oeko-Tex certified, meaning the manufacturing process is free from harmful chemicals. We work primarily with linen and bamboo — two of the most sustainable natural fibres available.

  • Linen comes from the flax plant, requires no extra water beyond rainfall, and needs no pesticides to grow. Every part of the flax plant is used — nothing is wasted.
  • Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet. It releases 30% more oxygen and absorbs more CO₂ than other plants, needs 35% less water than cotton, and can be grown without pesticides.

Our Studio

We cut, make and print all of our products in our Cornish studio, with our print room powered 100% by solar energy. We use water-based printing inks throughout. Making locally means a significantly lower carbon footprint, and wherever possible we source all materials as close to home as we can.

Zero Waste

We recycle and reuse as much fabric as possible. Many of our smaller products are made from studio off-cuts, minimising waste. Tiny fabric scraps that can’t be used in the studio are sent to local schools for craft projects. If you’d like our linen and bamboo scraps for your own projects (ideal for stuffing cushions!), do get in touch.

Packaging

We reuse all of our packaging — so if your box looks like it’s been used before, that’s because it has! We won’t buy single-use plastic packaging, but we do reuse any plastic packaging we receive rather than send it to landfill. As we move towards becoming a waste-free business, we continue to grow our Eco Collection — practical, reusable products that help remove single-use plastics from everyday life, including Reusable Sandwich Wraps, Reusable Snack Bags and Eco Soap Bags.
