Have you seen our new linen covers for jam jars, glasses, jugs and tiny bowls? We've unveiled them just in time for jam & chutney making season!
We've used fabric offcuts from larger projects, which allows us to reduce fabric waste, while making practical, beautiful products. You have the confidence of knowing that they are sustainable and your pack will contain an assorted range of 10 colourful covers, with no two exactly alike.
I find them useful for covering all sorts of ramekins, tiny bowls, jam jars and jugs, I've even put them over glasses of home made lemonade. They stretch from 5cm - 11cm wide and can be used for covering food on the worktop or in the fridge. Because they are washable, they can be used again and again.
Fabulous For Fermenting
I recently attended a fermenting course which introduced me to Kefir and Kombucha making and I've found these small bowl covers invaluable to keep my creations covered!
The elastic holds the fabric taut and because linen is breathable, the air can still circulate, which encourages the fermentation process to progress. These sweet, washable covers also make a great alternative to single use plastic and silicone.
Lemon & Mustard Seed Chutney Recipe
This zingy chutney is good to make in the autumn or whenever there are lots of lemons available. The recipe comes from the allotment garden website. It keeps really well so it's great to have in your store cupboard, for use at home or to give as a gift. Top it with one of our new jar covers!
Ingredients:
- 3 unwaxed lemons
- 1tbsp salt
- 3 onions
- 300ml of cider vinegar
- 1 tsp allspice or mixed spice
- 2tbsp yellow mustard seeds
- 225g sugar
- 50g raisins
Method:
- Chop the lemons into chunks, remove the seeds and place in a bowl with the salt. Cover and set aside for about 10 hours.
- In a heavy bottomed saucepan combine the salted lemons with the onions, finely diced, vinegar, spices, mustard seeds, sugar and raisins.
- Bring to a boil and simmer for 50 mins or until the lemons are soft.
- Ladle into sterilised jam jars, seal, label and store in a cool, dark place until ready to use. Great with cheese!
A jar of this yummy chutney, topped with one of our lovely bowl covers, plus some cheese and crackers would make a delicious home made present, great for a birthday or Christmas!
