New Produce Bags and Phoebe's Yummy Hummus

New Produce Bags and Phoebe's Yummy Hummus

I have been putting our new reusable Linen Produce Bags to good use in the kitchen this week. The littlest of the set of three Linen Produce Bags is perfect for storing many of the key ingredients in this delicious homemade hummus. These breathable produce bags offer a great plastic-free alternative and the linen cord creates a secure tie keeping even the smallest ingredients safe and secure.

This is the recipe that my daughter Phoebe uses, and a favourite of all of ours. When making any variation of hummus, you can add extra bits to it to spice it up or take them away if you prefer.

I often add roasted red peppers chopped up to make a red pepper hummus or caramelised onions to make a tasty variation.

Phoebe's Yummy Hummus Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tins of chickpeas or use dried, soak and cooked equivalent
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 2 tablespoons of light tahini
  • 1 teaspoon Cornish Sea Salt
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of harissa
  • Splash of olive oil

Method:

  • Drain the chick peas saving two tablespoons of chick pea water.
  • Add the chick peas and the saved water to a food processor.
  • Pop in the remaining ingredients and whizz until fine.
  • Adjust seasoning as required.

The hummus should be stored in the fridge, it’ll keep for a day or two if you don’t eat it all in a flash!

Our Reusable Bowl Covers are great for keeping the hummus fresh without resorting to cling film or other plastic alternatives. Available in a set of three, they are suitable for use in the fridge and feature an elasticated hem for a secure yet breathable fit.

The hummus tastes great served with crunchy crudités or try making into a fab dressing to drizzle over roasted vegetables or a simple salad with this great idea from https://frommybowl.com/hummus-salad-dressing/.

That looks delicious. I started making my own hummus during lockdown and will give your version a try. Double delicious with homemade pitta bread which is very easy too, and would look great in your bread bag.
